Great buy September 8, 2010 Diaz Family I always love buying Canon. I enjoyed my vacation in florida and took pictures for the first time with my underwater camera and I loved it....... I recomend this camera very much!!!!Bell & Howell Splash WP5 Waterproof 12.2 MP Digital Camera with 5X Zoom, 2.7" LCD, Smile Shutter, 2GB SD - Blue
5 stars for utility, 1 star for price! July 21, 2010 TomK1 (Brookeville, MD) If you use the Canon D10 in the water for snorkeling or scuba, you'll need to consider this kit. It consists of 3 ropes with the correct camera mount, 3 alternate face plates, and a water-shedding camera case with carabiner.
The most useful part is the ropes. One rope is useful to use as a lanyard, the other two have an attached clips & carabiners that lets you clip it to a dive vest in various configurations. The rope is very high quality and it is finished beautifully.
The face plates appear to be designed so your camera doesn't get confused with another D10 on the boat, and of course the case keeps the camera from getting banged around.
It's really beautifully made and a necessity, since it's the only way to connect a neck strap, or diving strap to your camera because of the clever, but unique connectors on the camera.
The problem is the price. At $100+ for this kit is at least double what it's worth. And since this mounting system is unique, it seems unlikely that a 3rd party will fill this niche.
As to functionality, I like it a lot, and if you use it a lot in the water, it's almost a necessity. Maybe what you could do is buy one and split it with 2 other friends!
Useful strap for snorkeling with Canon D10 (pricey but sell the rest on Craigslist) March 25, 2010 M. Guillermo (Hermosa Beach, CA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Snorkeling is so much more fun with a digital camera. It's like a game, trying to capture a shot of each different kind of fish or sea creature. If you want to be hands-free while swimming, the wrist strap that comes with the Canon D10 is not enough.
Unfortunately, this accessory pack is the only option for the Canon D10, which means the price point is not very desirable. The good news is that you don't need all 3 straps and 3 face plates that come in the pack. I tried all 3 straps and ended up keeping only one (the fixed length, not adjustable and no carabiner) and then selling the rest on Craigslist. I had no desire for switching out face plates because it's too much effort to screw it on and off in my opinion. In the end, the one strap and waterproof case were worth it!! Of course, I do suggest buying the accessory pack WITH the camera at the same time in order get the 15% discount.
The straps are constructed well and seem strong. There are only 2 flaws that I experienced was the carabiner, which was easy to accidentally push while snorkeling and then the camera would become loose (defeating the purpose). This is why I sold the carabiner straps. The second flaw is that sand can get stuck in the grooves and make it hard to connect the straps to the camera. Best practice would probably be rinsing everything after getting out of the ocean.
Moreover, the fixed strap was a good comfortable length to strap around my chest while snorkeling (I'm only 5'4"). I could not find any reference online at any website, not even on Canon, for measurements on the straps or any detailed description about the accessory pack Model AKT-DC1, so I measured it myself.
a) Shorter one (30") with a fixed clip.
b) Medium length (47") with out any clip and is not adjustable.
c) Longer one (54") with an adjustable clip.
Anyhow, I definitely would recommend getting the accessory pack if you get the D10 (and then selling the parts you don't need). As far as recommending the D10 itself, I wish it was a little smaller so that I can use it for everyday, but other than that I keep it on the side for snorkeling or water trips.
Canon Does It Again February 17, 2010 Gary L. Pelletier 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The accessary kit is great in quality and inventiveness.
The only problem is that you can not buy the individual items seperately. Canon is doing an injustice to their die hard Canon customers. In order to buy a shoulder strap it cost the user an average of $125.00. That is uncalled for. Great product Canon, but get it together and be fair to your die hard customers. Sell the accessaries seperately.
A must have for snorkeling December 15, 2009 Mark Kitaoka (Pacifica, CA United States) I purchased this harness set to go with my new D10 Canon. I found that the tether with the rectangular leather piece suited my needs best. I could keep the camera cinched close to my chest while diving and using the quick adjustment, release enough cord to keep the camera tethered to me, but giving me enough room to use it. I gave it four stars not because of the build quality, but because of the price.
